The wait, finally over
We got a lot of things before GTA 6
The internet has spent years turning the wait into a running joke. "We got X before GTA 6" started as a jab about a UFO congressional hearing and never really stopped: people have credited the format with everything from cancer research breakthroughs to their own kids being born. It's a decade-plus bit at this point, and somehow it's going to end this fall.
Rockstar gave fans a legitimate reason to believe it this time. Netflix ran an exclusive extended look at the game in late August, gameplay captured on PS5, Jason and Lucia running a criminal operation across the fictional state of Leonida. Setting the record straight
It's PS5 and Xbox, not PS5 only
Worth clearing up: GTA 6 is not a PlayStation exclusive. Rockstar confirmed it ships simultaneously on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. No PC version has been announced yet, current gen consoles only for now, and history says PC will follow a year or so later the way GTA V's did.
What we do know about the game itself: Vice City is back, this time inside a bigger fictional Florida stand-in called Leonida, and the story follows two leads, Lucia and Jason, instead of the usual solo protagonist. That's about as far as the confirmed lore goes without wandering into leak territory, and we'd rather send you to Rockstar's own trailers than repeat secondhand rumors as fact.
The rumor everyone repeats
The PS5 liquid-metal-drying-out thing? Mostly a myth.
You've probably seen the claim: stand your PS5 up vertically and the liquid metal cooling the chip eventually leaks or dries out and kills the console. It traces back to a 2023 tweet from a French repair shop, and the site that first amplified it later walked the story back, calling it a translation misunderstanding. Sony builds a physical barrier and coverplate around that liquid metal specifically so it stays put in either orientation during normal use.
Here's where it gets real, though: that seal only holds if nobody's opened the console. Once a PS5 has been cracked open, whether by an inexperienced repair attempt or a DIY cleaning that went further than intended, the barrier can get disturbed, and that's when liquid metal actually becomes a hazard to the board. So the vertical-stand panic is overblown. What isn't overblown: a console that's been opened by someone who didn't know what they were doing.
The bigger threat to any console sitting in a media cabinet for three years is a lot more boring than a viral tweet. It's dust. It's a fan that's been working overtime through every hundred-hour open-world binge since 2023. It's thermal paste that was never great to begin with, slowly losing contact with the heatsink. None of that needs a conspiracy. It just needs time, and GTA 6 is about to ask more of these consoles than they've had to give in years.

Signs your console needs attention before launch day
The fan sounds like a hair dryer
Rising fan noise almost always means it's fighting dust or a worn bearing to keep the chip cool. It gets louder before it fails, not after.
Random shutdowns or freezes
A console that powers itself off mid-session, especially during demanding open-world games, is usually thermal-shutting down to protect itself.
It's hot to the touch
Warm is normal. Hot enough that you don't want to leave your hand on the case is not, and it's worth a look before it gets worse.
HDMI cutting out or no picture at all
Often a bent or damaged HDMI port from a knocked cable, not the whole console. That's a board-level fix, not a reason to replace it.
None of these mean your console is dying. They mean it's telling you something, and it's a lot cheaper to listen now than after it won't turn on at all on November 19th.
